Nineteen-year-old Ugur Acar is the first person to get a face transplant in Turkey.
ANTALYA, TURKEY (FEBRUARY 21, 2012) (AKDENIZ HOSPITAL HANDOUT - Ugur Acar, who underwent Turkey's first facial transplant surgery, revealed his new look before the cameras on Tuesday (February 21).
The 19-year-old recipient had face transplant a month ago and said he was dreaming of getting married after the surgery.
Turkish doctors successfully transplanted tissue from the face of a 45-year-old donor to Acar.
"I thank the family of the donor a lot. I can't say more at the moment, but tomorrow I will make a press statement along with my doctors," he said as he posed for the media.
The surgery has brought the number of face transplants carried out worldwide to 20.
The first surgery of its kind was a partial face transplant on a French woman Isabelle Dinoire, conducted in 2005.
Doctors said they were planning to discharge Acar from hospital soon.
